THE FOOTPATHS
- 400 YEARS OF ATLANTIC CROSSINGS
The boats are the creation of the pupils of the Parishes three Primary Schools.
The children have worked in pairs, collected the foliage, made the flags and added the flowers.
Each boat
carries the name of the pupils who made it and in some cases is dedicated to
the memory of a loved one, in which case it has been sponsored by the children’s
parents.

LYCH GATE - THREE SHIPS DEPARTING GREENWICH
The display depicts
the three ships of the Virginia Company - ‘Godspeed’, Susan Constance’
and ‘Discovery’ - preparing to set sail from Greenwich in 1606 for
their epic crossing of the Atlantic Ocean to the eventual founding of Jamestown
the first British settlement in North America.
Designed and created by Jenny & Richard Leeves and Diana & John Rolfe

Dedicated to the memory of the Leeves & Rolfe families and Joseph &
Olivia Rudwick by their daughter Virginia Robotham.

The display depicts
The Liberty Bell which is located in the Independence Hall Philadelphia and
is an American Bell of great significance.
Its most famous ringing on the 8th July 1776, summoned citizens for the reading
of the Declaration of Independence.
The inscription on the bell reads: “Proclaim liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof”.
The Liberty Bell was cast in England at the world famous Whitechapel foundry
in London in 1752.
In
1920 the original six bells here at All Saints’ were re-cast at Whitechapel
and two new bells added, paid for by donations as a thanksgiving for the end
of the first World War.
