The news of the
month has to be that the reshingling has begun!! It seems incredible, and due
to the hard work and generosity of many people living both locally and as far
away as Singapore and America that we have been able to raise the money required
to repair the spire in such a short period of time.
One of the team of steeplejacks is the son of the man who reshingled the spire in 1952, so its really good to think of a family link in the work.
If you visit the church in fine weather, during week days you ‘ll be able to see exactly what’s involved.
The workmen are suspended in bosuns’ chairs from a pulley attached to an iron band round the top of the spire. They are stripping off the old shingles from a small section, having started at the base, and then attaching new overlapping cedar shingles. We are delighted that the repairs will be completed before the bad weather of autumn and winter.

Our other news is that John Stent has agreed to be our new treasurer, in place of Johnny Gibbs.
John was church treasurer in the past, so is no stranger to the mysteries of church finance. We are delighted that John will be helping us in the future.
